Adult Classes

Adult classes are run a few times a year. There are several club members that provide classes during the year for both wheel throwing and hand-building. We have expression of interest sheets at the club for people to put their name down or you can ring the club and leave a message or email someone on the committee. If you attend the adult classes you need to bring a bucket with lid for "slops" and bring an old towel, an apron if you have one handy and your sense of adventure! For those of us who have never played with clay it is a very tactile experience and your first creation on either the wheel or with hand-building gives you a sense of satisfaction to see what you were able to achieve in such a short time-frame.

Kids Classes

School aged children can participate in Theme and handbuilding workshops such as circus, Mexican and Australiana, where they make and decorate both functional and fun pieces. Contact the club for more information. These classes are usually during the school holidays. Fee applies - clay, glazes and firings are inclusive. Kids should wear old clothes that mum doesn't mind them getting dirty.

POTTERY TEACHER PROFILE

Tricia Grienke

Tricia has been teaching Wheel throwing classes at the CPG and local schools for he past 15 years. She has attended many workshops both in Rockhampton and throughout the country to learn skills to build up her knowledge. She is presently attending the ANU externally, working towards a Diploma in Ceramics.

She has taught wheel work to many people aging from 7 years to middle age years, who often come to her classes as absolute clay beginners, who learn to throw competently. Her pottery classes aim to meet the varying needs of students, ranging from those who want to have a go and make a few gifts to those who want to master the clay on the wheel.

The Beginner Classes are structured as weekly, 3 hour lessons extending over 6 or 8 weeks. During this time she covers clay preparation, and basic throwing skills to make simple pots, some decorating techniques, glazing and firing of the pots made. Once students have completed the course, they are satisfied to finish their clay experience, or eager to continue developing their skills with her or other members of CPG in more advanced lessons.
