The Capricornia Potter's Group formed in early 1974, the club spent a few years in several locations in Rockhampton before moving to where we are now in the Walter Reid Cultural Centre. It was on 20 August 1977 that the Walter Reid Building opened its doors to the public as an arts centre known as The Walter Reid Cultural Centre. As quoted from an article for their 25th anniversary - The club rooms in the building are often described as having "rough hewn posts and beams and soaring ceilings" and have a sense of space and history with a great deal of Character". Their mission was to promote the craft "through education and professionalism".

In 1974-1975 the Capricornia Potters Group introduced Flea markets to Rockhampton, giving local artists a fun outlet for their work. The club was formed for the like-minded potters/ceramists to have facilities to get together for exhibitions, workshops & access to kilns etc. The club currently has around 30 members and our monthly meeting is held on the last Tuesday of the month - visitors welcome. The club members have regular get togethers for pottery and social events. The members have a variety of skill levels from beginner to experienced and enjoy both hand and wheel work.

We welcome and encourage newcomers and visitors to our club and the members enjoy passing on their knowledge and enjoyment of their art and what they experienced in their pottery lives. We look forward to meeting you so come and join us!
